start being a queen from your nail

HISTORY

The Chinese used a colored lacquer, made from a combination of Arabic gum, egg whites, gelatin and beeswax. They also used a mixture consisting of mashed rose, orchid and impatiens petals combined with alum. This mixture, when applied to nails for a few hours or overnight, leaves a color ranging from pink to red. The Egyptians used reddish-brown stains derived from henna to color their nails as well as the tips of their fingers. Henna dyes are used to draw intricate, temporary designs on hands in Mehndi. Chou Dynasty of 600 B.C., Chinese royalty used gold and silver to enhance their nails. A fifteenth-century Ming manuscript cites red and black as the colors chosen by royalty for centuries previous. The Egyptians used nail color to signify social order, with shades of red at the top. Queen Nefertiti, the wife of the king Akhenaton, colored her finger and toe nails ruby red; Cleopatra favored a deep rust red. Women of lower rank who colored their nails were permitted only pale hues. Incas decorated their fingernails with pictures of eagles. Some Native Americans had colorful nails. It is unclear how the practice of coloring nails progressed following these beginnings. Portraits from the 17th and 18th centuries include shiny nails. By the turn of the 19th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply painted. In addition, English and US 19th century cookbooks contained directions for making nail paints. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, women still pursued a polished, rather than painted, look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny. One such polishing product sold around this time was Graf’s Hyglo nail polish paste. Some women during this period painted their nails using a clear, glossy varnish applied with camel-hair brushes. When automobile paint was created around 1920, it inspired the introduction of colored nail enamels. Nail polish contains nitrocellulose which is available in many different grades and is measured by viscosity. Nail grade nitrocellulose should be used for nail polish, as opposed to industrial grade which is available for use in furniture finishes, auto-paints and other various non-cosmetic lacquer finishes. Nail polish manufacturers are known to use industrial grade nitrocellulose covertly to save money, as it is half the price of the nail grade nitro.

Nail polish in fashion

Nail polish has been traditionally worn by women, but is now gaining in popularity for men as well. Traditional colors for nail polish were red, pink and brown, and it can now be found in virtually any color. French manicures traditionally mimic the color of natural nails, using a clear, beige or soft pink polish on most of the nail with a white finish at the tips. Reverse French manicures have recently become popular with women as well.
Black has been a popular color of nail polish with goths and punks of both genders since the 1970s, and has recently gained acceptance as a very chic color for both men and women. Other dark shades are finding popularity with more men in recent years as men wearing their nails (toes and/or fingers) polished is gaining in acceptance.
Some types of polish are advertised to cause nail growth, make nails stronger, prevent nails from breaking, cracking and splitting and stop nail biting. Nail polish may be applied as one of several components in a manicure. However, some nail treatments contain ingredients such as ammonium hexafluorophosphate.

it's american dream wohooo

The spring is around the corner and one of the best choices is denim. Even at the risk of being redundant, a total-denim look is what is needed for capturing the essence of this trend. Denim, the eternal fabric, was first introduced to fashion in 1853 by a German immigrant, Levi Strauss. He moved from New York to California, where the gold rush was at its height and where workers needed resistents pants. In the Fifties jeans became very popular among the younth. Levi Strauss made history.

Often jeans are considered symbols of the American dream and good representatives of the American culture outside USA's borders. Apparently most of the developed countries are getting over the recession. Catwalks nodded in assent giving denim a wink.

Vivier

Don't be fooled by the title; this post is not about Roger Vivier, I am going to talk about Clare Vivier, a french journalist who started to design her bags as a result of being unable to find anything that suited her needs. Her top priorities are quality and simplicity, which turns her products into classic, timeless objects.

Fancy Tights

Fancy Tights

Ever since I saw these stockings on the Chanel FW08 runway, I knew I wanted them.
They are refreshing, fun and elegant. I especially love the black stripe at the back- it is super slimming!
Luckily for me, this trend finally made it to high street. Urban Outfitters have almost the same contrasting colored ones (left: and it's not true what they say on the website about it being online only. I just got mine from the store today!). They are also just simple enough that you can wear it with almost anything.

Urban Outfitters also offer a bit of variation with the bold black/gray stripes (right), which are still cool and slimming. But since this one is so much more striking than the other one, I'd be much more careful matching this one because these ARE the statement.
If you want something even subtler, I'd go with these stockings with a seam at the back. It is almost like regular stockings but with an interesting twist at the back that is both sexy and slimming (a very important attribute), what more can you want?I'd always thought that lace was slutty, but HG turned me around and now I"m a convert (or maybe I'd just confused them with fishnets?). It adds just the right subtle touch of girliness to an outfit (and it is very popular amongst the models this season). This mini diamond printed tights (right) gives a similar textured effect in a less girly way. Just remember not to choose any print too densely populated or wide (like wide diamond prints or plaids!), because they'd just make your legs look uneccesarily wide.
And also, not fishnet footless stockings or v print red ones (above), please. They are just tacky tacky tacky. But otherwise, have fun with this trend. I know I will :)

CHANEL fragrance

A sphere of fresh, floral and spicy scents, held together and kept in constant motion by the Unexpected Accord. It simply comes your way, it favours the brave, and you find it where you least expect it... When it comes your way you must grasp it, and not turn your back on it… This is chance, the chance which brings together a woman and her destiny, a woman and her fragrance : CHANCE from CHANEL. A remarkable similarity, is there not?

A bouquet of abstract flowers with an indefinable femininity. May 1921. When the perfume creator Ernest Beaux presented her with a choice of fragrances, Gabrielle Chanel barely hesitated before choosing the fifth one, which was to become CHANEL N°5.

A Soft Oriental Floral that is more suggestive than overt, heightening a natural sensuality and casting a spell of intrigue... A more sensual and intimate interpretation of the ALLURE fragrance. Warm, voluptuous and mysterious...and yet luminous and airy.

An exuberant, sensual and gourmand top note.

In March 1979, Jacques Polge visited the apartment of Coco Chanel in rue Cambon for the first time. He was both stunned and amazed... How could a woman who loved such simple and restrained lines have liked living in an apartment where such an incredible profusion, such an eclectic mix of styles reigned supreme ? In order to understand, he decided to pay tribute to her by creating his first feminine fragrance for CHANEL.
